Ludhiana, August 13

A city-based man kidnapped a 19-year-old girl and took her to Rajasthan where he committed the heinous crime of rape. The suspect has been identified as Habibur Rehman of Preet Vihar, Meharban.

The victim told the police that on June 8, when she went to market to buy some household items, the suspect met her on road. The suspect asked victim to sit in his car, as he wanted to take her for a ride. “Since the suspect is our neighbour, I sat in his car. Instead of taking me for a ride, the suspect took me to railway station where he forcibly made me board a train. Next day we reached Jaipur (Rajasthan). The suspect kept me in rented accommodation for over two months where he developed physical relationship with me,” the victim alleged.

“Till August 6, I stayed with the suspect in Rajasthan. On August 7, my parents reached Rajasthan and brought me back to Ludhiana,” the victim added. “After reaching Ludhiana, initially I didn’t reveal anything to my family, but yesterday I told my mother that the suspect had raped me and a complaint was lodged with the police,” the victim said.

ASI Kamaljit Singh, said, “Raids are being conducted to nab the suspect.” — TNS
