2-day weightlifting tournament begins

KHANNA: A two-day Panjab University inter-college weightlifting tournament commenced at Mata Ganga Khalsa (MGK) College, Kottan.

A two-day Panjab University inter-college weightlifting tournament commenced at Mata Ganga Khalsa (MGK) College, Kottan.

On the first day, women’s tournament was organised under the leadership of Parminder Singh Ahluwalia, director, Physical Education and Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Gurjit Singh Saini, assistant engineer and international weightlifter was the chief guest.

Each participant college was permitted to enter a maximum of eight competitors for the tournament.

The chief guest had sponsored track suits and trophies for the players.

Kuldip Kaur Dhaliwal, principal, MGK College, thanked the director of Physical Education and Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh, for giving the opportunity of hosting the competition.

Dhaliwal motivated students to participate in sports activities regularly. She said such competitions fostered sportsman spirit and inculcated a sense of discipline, cooperation, social harmony, integrity and fitness among players.
