Ludhiana, February 14

Following the death of a 32 year-old man allegedly due to overdose of heroin on Monday, the Special Task Force arrested two brothers and recovered 1-kg heroin from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Sonu and Malkit Singh of Razapur village in the district.

Ludhiana STF in-charge Harbans Singh said a man, Sunny, of Model Colony on Rahon Road, had died due to overdose of heroin. Sunny had allegedly purchased the contraband for Rs 1,500 from the suspects. He injected heroin into his veins near a seeds farm in the Ladhowal area on February 12 and died on the spot, he added.

Following a tip-off, the suspects were arrested while they were going from Noorpur village to Razapur on a bike. The police allegedly recovered 1-kg heroin from their possession and also impounded their bike, SI Jaspal Singh stated in the police complaint.

“During interrogation, the suspects admitted that they had sold heroin to Sunny who died due to overdose,” claimed Harbans Singh.

The Ladhowal Police have registered a case under Section 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act. Harbans Singh claimed that they had asked the police to add more sections to the charge sheet as heroin sold by them had led to Sunny’s death. — TNS
