2 Judges, lawyer, staff sent to home quarantine



Ludhiana: Two judges, one lawyer and 17 judicial employees have been sent to home quarantine for 14 days with the orders of District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh. According to information, two accused, who were produced before the court of the two Judicial Magistrates by the police, later tested positive for Covid. Apart from the judicial officers, the entire staff of the court, including the reader, criminal ahlmad, civil ahlmad, judgment writer, naib court, Judge's gunman and usher, were asked to home-quarantine themselves. Moosewala’s Effigy burnt

Ludhiana: The Shiv Sena Hindustan burnt an effigy of singer Sidhu Moosewala at Adda Chowk here for his alleged remarks against the media fraternity. The protest was led by Akhil Kakkar, chairman of Vyopar Wing of Sena. Chandarkant Chadda, senior leader of the wing, said Moosewala had spoken against the media fraternity which the party couldn't tolerate. Chadda said Moosewala should tender an apology to the media or else the agitation against the singer would be intensified. The leaders alleged that the singer had been promoting gun culture due to which the youth of Punjab was going astray. They demanded that a case should be lodged against the singer. TNS

50K lt of lahan destroyed

Ludhiana: The police have recovered 50,000 litre of "lahan" in a raid conducted at the villages situated along the Sutlej. The in charge of Anti-Smuggling Cell, Yashpal Sharma, who led the operation, said they came to know that a huge quantity of "lahan" was hidden near the river at Rajapur and Bholewal Jadid villages. A team of the cell raided several places and recovered the concealed "lahan". However, the smugglers escaped, said Sharma, adding that raids were being conducted to nab the smugglers. He said the "lahan" was destroyed on the spot by the police. TNS

Man held for abetting suicide

Ludhiana: The Salem Tabri police arrested a man on the charge of abetment to suicide after his wife allegedly ended her life. The accused has been identified as Pintu of Gagandeep Colony. Joginder, kin of the deceased Meera, said his niece got married to the accused about two years ago and enough dowry was given on marriage, but he continued to torture her for dowry. On June 16, Meera committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

Man nabbed with banned medicines

The police division 4 nabbed a man and recovered 550 tablets of banned medicines. The accused has been identified as Arun Kumar of Chandarlok Colony. As per the police, during routine patrolling in the area, a pedestrian was stopped for checking on suspicion. During the checking of his belongings, banned medicines were recovered. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. TNS
