Two persons were killed in separate hit-and-run accidents in the city. The erring driver in one the cases has been identified.

Arjun Thakur (60) was hit by a speeding Innova while returning home from duty at Kotak Bank in the afternoon of July 1 near Manju Cinema in the Miller Ganj area. He died on the spot, said his son Surja Kumar, a resident of Hargobind Pura in Islam Ganj. The police have registered a case under sections 379/304-A of the IPC. Further investigation in the case was underway.

In another accident, an unidentified vehicle hit Ravinder Singh (26), a security guard of DMC Hospital near Rajpura Chowk. Ravinder was found dead on the road in the afternoon of July 3.

Although the police had earlier believed it to be a case of natural death and proceedings under section 174 were completed on July 4, Harjinder Singh, uncle of the deceased, later told the police that they had come to know about Ravinder having been hit by a vehicle and left on the road to die. He died of excessive bleeding from a head injury.

The police have booked the driver of the unidentified vehicle under sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC and efforts were on to trace the vehicle and its driver.
