2 smugglers held with 60 liquor boxes in Jamalpur
Liquor recovered from a white Toyota Innova after it was stopped based on a tip off
The Jamalpur police arrested two alleged smugglers after recovering 60 boxes of liquor, said officials.
They said the liquor was recovered from a white Toyota Innova.
According to the police, the seizures include 26 boxes of Rajasthani Whisky and 34 boxes of liquor Super Himmat Saunf. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Excise Act at the Jamalpur police station here, the officials added.
Inderjit Singh Boparai, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Industrial Area-A, identified the accused as Tajinderpal Singh alias Karan, a resident of Moga, and Shalinder Singh, a resident of Ferozepur.
ACP Boparai said police received a tip off that the accused were on their way to deliver the liquor to their clients and set up a checkpoint.
The seizures were made at the checkpoint after intercepting the accused’s vehicle, the ACP said.
He added that police are questioning the accused to ascertain more details about the operation.
Boparai said important revelations are likely and police will identify the major smugglers and suppliers involved in the liquor racket.
