Ludhiana, June 28

The Zone 2 police today conducted raids to catch smugglers in the area.

A team of 125 policemen, led by Additional DCP-2 Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, raided Giaspura Flats, Pakhar Colony, Dhillon Nagar, Basant Nagar, Suraj Nagar, Jujhar Nagar, GG Nagar, Hargobind Nagar, Deep Nagar and other areas. The SHOs of Shimlapuri Daba and Police Station 6 took part in the raids. The Commando Force and the CIA were also part of the raiding teams.

Teja said the raids were conducted under the ongoing campaign against drugs launched by the Ludhiana police on International Day Against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking.

“We have rounded up 20 suspects who either have a notorious past or are still smuggling drugs. Houses of these suspects were also searched. A few vehicles with registration numbers of Delhi and other states have been impounded for verification,” said Teja.

The police will question these suspects and they will be released only after proper verification.

The police received information about smugglers who had fled the area before the raids. Police teams have been formed to nab them.

The ADCP said apart from raids, nakas were also set up at various places. A drug peddler Princepal Singh Prince of New Janta Nagar was arrested with drugs at Matharu Chowk following a tip-off. The police recovered 51 gram of narcotic powder from his possession.

The city police earlier launched an operation, Rat Hunt, under which several drug smugglers were arrested.
