22-year-old shot at as clash over music turns violent, critical
Ankit, a resident of Noorwala Road, sustains two bullet wounds
A 22-year-old man was injured as two men allegedly fired at him after an argument over playing loud music into the street took a violent turn, said officials.
The incident happened on Tibba road during Lohri celebrations, they added.
According to the information available, the victim, Ankit of Noorwala Road, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital where doctors say his condition is “critical”.
Tibba Station House Officer (SHO) sub-inspector Amarjit Singh said the victim was visiting a relative whose family was celebrating Lohri around a bonfire in the street outside their house. Four youngsters on two motorcycles, who were passing by, started arguing with the family members and their relatives, he added.
According to the SHO, the accused had come to the area to meet a friend.
“The accused raised the issue under the pretext of questioning loud music being played in the street. They asked the victim to stop the loud music, warning him of dire consequences,” he added.
The SHO said the arguments took a violent turn in no time as the accused opened fire. They then fled the spot on their motorcycles.
He said an illegal weapon was used in the crime.
After a complaint by the victim’s family, the police have registered a case on attempt to murder charges and under sections of the Arms Act against four accused. Police identified one of the accused as Devraj of EWS Colony, Chandigarh Road. Police said raids were being conducted to arrest him.
They said once the key accused is nabbed, the others will be identified and arrested.
He said that once they are arrested, the police will investigate where the accused sourced the illegal weapon from.
