They said the action came as part of a special drive organised under directions from Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma.
According to the official, the police have intensified crackdown on anti-social elements and traffic violators to ensure a safer environment for women, students and the public.
On Thursday, a special enforcement and checking drive was carried out outside Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar. It was led by Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP Traffic).
The police teams monitored the area to deter harassment and ensure a secure passage for female students. They warned those loitering without valid reasons and checked the vehicles passing from the area. Fines were also slapped on owners of two-wheelers fitted with modified silencers.
The police personnel inspected street vendors and carts stationed outside the college premises to ensure that no contraband or illegal substances were being sold to the youth.
ADCP Purewal said, "Our primary objective is to provide a fearless environment for students. We are sending a clear message that nuisance-causing behaviour will not be tolerated. Such surprise checks will continue across various educational hubs in the city to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
