At least 25 entrepreneurs attended a programme on dairy farm management at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, said officials.
The session, titled “Managing competencies in dairy farm business management”, was organised by the Department of Livestock Production Management and funded by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
Experts from veterinary, dairy science, banking and finance sectors delivered a series of lectures, practical and experiential learning sessions during the training programme, delving into aspects of scientific dairy farming, processing, marketing and finances.
Vice-Chancellor Jatinder Paul Singh Gill chaired the valedictory-cum-certificate. He interacted with the participants and encouraged them to follow scientific guidelines for dairy production to maintain the sustainability and profitability of the state’s dairy sector. He said the MSME sector serves as a platform for entrepreneurship, often driven by individual ingenuity and creativity, and the university provides hand-holding to all the budding and existing dairy entrepreneurs. SS Randhawa, director of research and Dean, College of Veterinary Science, delved into precautionary measures to improve animal’s health and productivity, and stressed that university supports innovators with training in creating goods and services tailored to regional demand.
RS Grewal, director, extension education, and course director, batted for adoption of cutting-edge technologies to manage dairy products on a commercial scale and adding value through processing for economic stability by promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
Poster-making competition
The National Service Scheme (NSS) wing and Red Ribbon Club of the university organised an inter-college poster-making competition on Tuberculosis, said officials.
Dr Veenu Gupta, head, Department of Microbiology, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, informed the attendees about early diagnosis of TB, free treatment and prevention. She elaborated upon the key symptoms of the disease.
The competition offered participants a platform to foster awareness around these critical issues, said RS Aulakh, Director Students’ Welfare.
Nidhi Sharma, assistant director, publications, and NSS programme coordinator, said 85 students from four colleges participated in the competition.
