Ludhiana, June 17
A surprise checking at the Central Jail, Ludhiana, led to the recovery of 29 mobile phones in two separate cases.
As many as 12 mobile phones were recovered from nine jail inmates, while the remaining were found abandoned on the jail premises.
In the first case, Assistant Jail Superintendent Gagandeep Sharma said a surprise checking was conducted in the jail on June 11. During the checking, four mobile phones were recovered from four jail inmates - Akashdeep, Deepu Kumar, Davinder Kumar and Ranjit - while seven mobile phones were found abandoned on the jail premises.
In another case, Assistant Jail Superintendent Satnam Singh said during a surprise checking in the jail on June 13, eight mobiles were recovered from five inmates - Sukhwinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Vinod Kumar, Gurjit Singh and Dinesh Sharma - while 10 cellphones were found abandoned on the jail premises. Cases have been registered against the inmates under the Prison Act.
