Ludhiana, July 10
The Ludhiana rural police nabbed three drug smugglers and recovered poppy husk and opium from their possession. The police also seized two trucks and a car from them.
In the first case, the Hathur police nabbed two smugglers, identified as Charanjit Singh alias Pappu resident of Jattpura village and Bhinder Singh alias Bhinda of Manuke village, and recovered 40-kg poppy husk from them.
Investigating officer Amarjit Singh said the police party was patrolling in the area when they got the information that the suspects were on their way to smuggle a huge consignment of narcotics in trucks. During the checking, poppy husk was recovered from the truck.
In another case, the Jodhan police nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 700-gram opium from his possession. The accused had been identified as Amarnath alias Nathu of Jagraon. Investigating officer ASI Pahara Singh said an tip-off was received that the suspect was coming from the drain bridge side in a car. A naka was placed for intercepting the vehicle. During the checking, the accused was held with opium. —TNS
