3 injured in clash near Machhiwara police station, case registered
Accused to be tested for drugs: Cops
At least three individuals were injured after a clash broke out in front of the Machhiwara Police Station on Wednesday, said officials, adding that two cases have been registered in connection with the matter.
According to the information available, the clash stemmed from a dispute over one of the groups giving employment of a former worker of other group.
Police said they have booked a Nihang and his accomplices for allegedly attacking members of the other groups with sharp-edged weapons. Police said they recovered an air pistol from the suspects.
Mandeep Singh, Jagrup Singh and Navjot Singh of Takhran village were injured in the attack.
Tirlochan Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Samrala, identified two of the accused as Arvinder Singh Binda of Arak Bhattian and Mandeep Singh.
Singh said a separate case was registered earlier against Binda for allegedly causing injuries to Nirbhai Singh on Tuesday. The DSP said dope tests of the suspects will be conducted for verifying their involvement in drug abuse.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two groups, from Arak Bhattian village and Takhran village, first quarreled on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Binda allegedly attacked members of his rival group with a sword. Police said they had to call for backup to control the situation.
