Ludhiana, January 14

The police have arrested two men, identified as Rohit Kumar and Pardeep Kumar, both residents of Bhamian Kalan, from the Heaven City colony in Bhamian Kalan on Thursday and have seized 30 boxes (360 bottles) of liquor smuggled from neighbouring states for sale in the city. The police said the duo had rented a room which was being used as a store house for liquor. Among the seized liquor there were 16 boxes of Royal Stag whisky, 11 boxes of UK Royal whisky, two boxes of Gold whisky and one box of High Speed whisky. The accused have been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. In another raid, one man, identified as Vikas Kumar, resident of Dr Ambedkar Nagar, was nabbed with 36 bottles of smuggled liquor from near a vacant plot near Children Park on Thursday. Among the seizures were 24 bottles of Imperial Blue whisky and 12 bottles of XXX rum. Vikas has been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act. Another man Prince Kumar, resident of Dr Ambedkar Nagar, was booked after 60 bottles of country liquor were recovered from his scrap shop in the Shahhed Bhagat Singh Nagar colony. Prince, who managed to escape from the scene on sight of police party, has been booked under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act.

Two nabbed with heroin

The police have arrested two men, identified as Rajneesh Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, both resident of Mohalla Peeru Banda, with 6 gm of heroin from near railway tracks in Salem Tabri on Thursday. The duo were nabbed while going on an Activa scooter to make delivery of the contraband. The police have also impounded the scooter and the duo have been booked under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Illegal LPG refilling: 1 held

A man, identified as Sushil Kumar, resident of Gurmeet Nagar, was arrested by a team of CIA-II from Lajpat Nagar on Thursday for selling the cooking gas (LPG) by filling small cylinders from domestic LPG cylinders. The police have made a recovery of 18 filled cylinders, nine empty cylinders of Bharat Gas, an empty cylinder of Indane Gas, a pump for filling LPG in cylinders, a pipe and a balance. A case under Sections 420 and 336 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered.
