Key accused used to target people by posing as a police officer
The local police arrested three alleged members of a notorious gang and recovered three pistols, and fake police uniforms and identity cards, officials said.
They said the accused were in the area to hit a target.
According to the police, the key accused, identified as Ranvir Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, used to target people by posing as a police officer. Photos of the accused wearing a police uniform were also recovered.
Police identified the other two accused as Harpreet Singh and Gurlal Singh, also residents of Tarn Taran.
Gagan Ajit Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Malerkotla, said the trio was in the region with the intent to strike some target.
The police first arrested the key accused and made the remaining two arrests after interrogating him.
According to the police, they are trying to establish links of the accused with local accomplices, if any.
While a .30-bore pistol was recovered from the key accused, police seized two China-made Px5 pistols from his accomplices.
Officials said the police are yet to ascertain details about the modus operandi of the accused. The arrests were made by a police team led by CIA in-charge Harjinder Singh, SSP Singh added.
