4 more die, 47 test positive for Covid in Ludhiana district

Covid-19 has claimed life of four more persons and 47 fresh cases have been reported in the district during the past 24 hours.

The Health Department confirmed 62 Covid positive cases today and of them, 47 patients belonged to the Ludhiana district while 15 were from other districts or states.

As per the information, three persons from the city came in contact of positive patients, 26 visited the OPD and nine with influenza like illness visited the flu corner. Besides, one traveller has tested positive for virus.

The Ludhiana Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said, “Six persons, including four from the Ludhiana district, one each from Gurdaspur and Sangrur districts, have lost their lives due to virus today. The Ludhiana patients, who died include a 51-year-old woman from Alamgir village, a 53-year-old woman from Basant Avenue, a 56-year-old man from Sector 32 on Chandigarh Road and a 85-year-old man from Boothgarh, Khanna.”

Now, the persons, who lost their lives, include 825 from Ludhiana district and 301 from other districts.

The Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner (DC), Varinder Sharma, said, “The number of Covid-19 patients getting cured in the Ludhiana district is increasing with each passing day. At present, there are 275 active patients in the district.”

“Till date, 3,61,917 samples have been taken out of which report of 3,60,531 has been received. In all, 3,38,097 samples have been found negative while the report of 1,386 samples is pending,” the DC added.

“The number of patients related to Ludhiana is 19,794. As many 46,292 persons have been home quarantined in the district. Today, 83 persons were home quarantined,” the DC added.
