The police arrested four thieves and snatchers from different parts of the city on Sunday and recovered three stolen motorcycles, Activa scooter and eight mobile phones from them.

The police said Mohit Malik, an inmate of Shelter Home here, was nabbed at a checkpoint at Lakkar Pul on Sunday. Mohit was riding a Hero Splendour motorcycle (PB-91H-4987), stolen from the General Bus Stand. During investigation, Hero Honda CD Deluxe motorcycle and an Activa scooter were also recovered from Mohit, who has been booked under Section 411 of the IPC.

Two other thieves/snatchers were arrested from near a petrol pump in Beantpura on Sunday after o Avad Ram, resident of Beantpura complained to the police that two motorcycle-borne youths had fled after snatching his mobile phone at around 8.30 pm from outside his house. The arrested persons were identified as Shekhar Kumar and Sunny Kumar, both residents of EWS Colony. During preliminary investigation, the police recovered a mobile phone and Honda motorcycle (PB-NS-5093). A case under Section 379-B of the IPC has been registered.

The police arrested thief/snatcher Sandeep Singh, resident of New Partap Nagar, Haibowal Kalan on a tip-off from Jassian Chowk on Sunday. The police recovered seven mobile phones from Sandeep Singh, who has been booked under Sections 380 and 411 of the IPC.

Phone snatched

Vipin Kumar, a resident of Ajit Nagar, lost his mobile phone to two snatchers reportedly riding a motorcycle (PB-10EW-9827). The complainant said he was going on foot with his cousin Bablu towards Metro Mall in the afternoon on Sunday when the duo came from behind and fled after snatching his mobile phone. The police have registered a case under Sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC.
