4 teams crowned winners as weather plays spoilsport on last day of football tournament

The clubs from Bhogiwal, Naromajra, Palha and Sangrur were declared joint winners as the 13th Football Tournament concluded here on Sunday amid inclement weather, said officials.

They said the event was organised by Ahmedgarh Sports and Welfare Association and Malerkotla police.

According to the organisers, the joint winners were declared due unavoidable reasons as inclement weather played spoilsport for the first half of the day.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra, Congress legislator Pargat Singh and former MLA Iqbal Singh Jhoondan felicitated the players during the matches there were played on the last day of the event.

Gagan Ajit Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Malerkotla, had inaugurated the event by administering oaths to players and organisers, urging them to shun drugs and support the state government’s campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh.

Managers and members of the participating teams signed a written oath, pledging to support the ongoing war against drugs. A total of 32 teams had registered for the three-day event.
