Ludhiana, June 18
Amid a spike in Covid cases, one case of swine flu has been reported from Ludhiana. A 52-year-old man has tested positive for swine flu. He is admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
“The Health Department has conducted a survey and met the family members and close contacts of the patient. No one has shown any symptoms and all are in good health,” said Civil Surgeon Dr SP Singh.
He said the department was alerted after the first case and instructions had been issued to keep a close watch on the symptomatic patients. Symptoms of swine flu and Covid were alike and people needed to be cautious. Swine flu is a droplet infection and can spread from one person to another. Those having flu should avoid going to crowded places. “People should cover their mouth and nose while sneezing. They should wash their hands after coming from outside and avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth too often,” said Civil Surgeon.
A medicine expert said people should try to keep their immunity up by drinking lots of water and eating Vitamin C rich fruits. Besides, they should remain fit by doing exercise regularly.
