Eightyone more persons tested positive for Covid in the district and three succumbed to the virus in the city today.

The total number of fatalities in the district reached 812 and 19,484 tested positive in the district.

On Thursday, 15 persons were on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate of coronavirus patients reached at 93.81%.

Those who lost their lives today included a 68-year-old man from Sham Nagar who was suffering from lung cancer, an 80-year-old female who was diabetic was admitted to the Civil Hospital and was a resident of Arjun Nagar. A 29-year-old woman also lost her life today. She was a resident of Basant Nagar and was suffering from jaundice apart from being Covid positive.

Those who tested positive today included 34 persons who were referred from various OPDs. Twentyfive persons were referred from flu corner, while 12 were contacts of positive persons.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma that till date, a total of 3,40,189 samples had been taken, out of which the reports of 3,38,853 samples had been received, of which 3,16,826 samples were found negative, while the reports of 1,336 samples were pending. He said now the total number of patients related to Ludhiana was 19,484, while 2,543 patients were related to other districts/states.

Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said people generally go for sampling only when they come in contact with a positive person or who have any symptoms. People should understand that they should volunteer themselves for sampling, irrespective of their symptoms or contact history. Also the sampling facility by the Health Department is completely free of cost, while private facilities charge a hefty amount for one test.

He said people have misconception that giving sample is a painful and time-consuming process, which is completely wrong. He added that Covid sampling takes less than a minute and the process was so smooth that person giving sample won’t feel anything. The procedure of sampling was completely painless.
