A 53-year-old Covid patient from Chowni Mohalla breathed his last this evening. He was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. This is the eighth death due to Covid in Ludhiana district.
Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, Medical Superintendent, DMCH, said the Covid patient was admitted to Deep Hospital three days ago and was shifted to the DMCH last night. He was a diabetic for the past five years and also had urinary tract infection, for which he was admitted to the hospital. Later, he tested positive for Covid.
A suspected Covid patient from Hoshiarpur also died at the DMCH. His sample was taken at Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, and the report is awaited. “He died within 5-10 minutes of reaching the hospital,” said Dr Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, two more persons tested positive for Covid in the district today, taking the tally to 183.
A 57-year-old man from Doraha, who has come to Deep Hospital for the treatment of some other disease, tested positive for Covid. He is already admitted there.
A 27-year-old man from Samrala, with travel history to Delhi on May 20, also tested positive today.
A woman (NRI), whose sample was taken at the PGI, also tested positive. She had come back from Mumbai after living there for two months. She has been admitted to Mother and Child Hospital, Vardhman.
Three discharged
Two RPF jawans from Daya Basti, Delhi, and a 40-year-old woman of Chander Nagar were discharged from the DMCH. Today, 110 more persons were asked to home-quarantine.
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, said as per the directions of the Punjab Government, any person not wearing mask would be fined Rs 200, any person breaking home-quarantine would be fined Rs 500 and any person spitting in public place would be fined Rs 100.
