9 days on, autopsy conducted

Nine days after Jagdeep Singh, alias Rinkal Khera, was allegedly murdered by Congress councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu’s son Jatinderpal Singh Sunny, the police on Saturday got the post-mortem of the body conducted at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) after the court’s permission. A board of doctors from the hospital carried out the post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the family of Rinkal refused to cremate his body until councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu was arrested. Police officials’ effort to convince the family into cremating the body went in vain.

A local court on Friday gave its permission for the post-mortem. The victim’s family had refused to allow the police to get the post-mortem done. The body had been kept in the mortuary since Rinkal was allegedly killed.

Rinkal (22) was allegedly attacked by Sunny and his accomplices who barged into his house and thrashed him to death. The police have booked Jatinderpal Singh Sunny and his accomplices for murder and councillor Neetu for criminal conspiracy. Though the police have arrested Sunny, his accomplices and father have absconded.

On July 23, Rinkal’s family staged a protest near Chief Minister Amrinder Singh’s residence in Chandigarh and demanded Neetu’s expulsion from the Congress and his arrest.

Ashwani Kapoor, DCP, said the police were conducting raids to nab Gurdeep and he would be arrested soon.
