Covid-19 claimed nine lives in the district today while 151 persons contracted the virus. The recovery rate has crossed 89 per cent.
The patients who succumbed to the virus were a 64-year-old man from Aman Nagar, a 63-year-old man from Miller Ganj area, a 73-year-old person from Shahpur village in Payal subdivision, a 38-year-old woman from Bhootgarh village, a 40-year-old man of Gill Road, a 58-year-old woman of Lohara village, a 63-year-old woman from Jamalpur, a 70-year-old man from Raj Guru Nagar and a 56-year-old resident of Tajpur Road.
The Health Department has confirmed 174 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, of which 151 cases are from Ludhiana district and 23 from other states or districts. There are 1,190 active patients in the district at present.
Dr Rajesh Bagga, Civil Surgeon, said a total of 2,61,062 samples had been taken to date, of which the reports of 2,58,884 samples had been received. The reports of 2,178 samples are pending. He said now, the number of patients related to Ludhiana district is 17,482.
Deputy Commission Varinder Kumar said 12 patients lost their lives today (nine from Ludhiana while one each from other districts of Jalandhar, Pathankot and Kapurthala). Now the Covid death toll in Ludhiana district stands at 717. As many as 4,198 samples of suspect patients were sent for testing today.
He said 43,172 persons had been kept under home isolation in the district to date and at present, the number of such persons is 4,162. Today, 292 persons were placed under home quarantine.
The District Administration and the Health Department have made all arrangements for early detection of the virus and proper treatment.
The DC has appealed to the people to follow the directions and contribute to efforts to contain the deadly disease.
