Ludhiana, February 14
The women cell of Police Commissionerate of Ludhiana organised a function for the couples who have restarted their lives after reconciliation efforts of the police. More than 250 couples took part in the function organised at the Police Lines. Manisha Gulati, Chairperson, Punjab State Women Commission (PSWC), also attended the function.
Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashwani Kapoor, ADCP Jagjit Singh Saroye and ACP Miss Prabhjot Kaur, besides several other senior officers were present.
While appreciating the working of the women cell, Manisha said they had disposed of close to 4,000 cases last year, and only 152 FIRs were registered. “This clearly shows that the Ludhiana police are focussing more on reconciliation and compromise between both parties than just registering an FIR,” she said.
The police officials said 41 counsellors had been deputed in the city who had been providing their services for the betterment of society.
Manisha asked the police officials that it they failed to resolve a particular case, then before registration of an FIR, they should forward it to the PSWC. She said the PSWC would try to resolve all cases on a priority basis.
The commission organised a lok adalat for such cases yesterday where 40 cases were put up, and seven were resolved amicably. In this fast-moving life, sometimes, it’s just ego clash that leads to misunderstandings between a man and wife or with families. A little bit of adjustment by both the man and the woman is the key to successful and happy married life, said Manisha.
