Ludhiana, April 7

A jail inmate, who was taken to Civil Hospital for suspected Covid-19 symptoms, escaped from the hospital yesterday.

The complainant, ASI Sewa Singh, said on April 6, Navjot Singh of Jhabeeal and Sourab Sehgal of Ganesh Nagar were arrested in a loot case. Later, ASI Ajmer Singh from the Dhandari police post took them in his custody in connection with some theft case. They were produced before the court that sent them to judicial custody.

“The jail medical officer examined the duo. The doctor found that both accused were suffering from fever and cough, hence he referred them to Civil Hospital. The doctors at Civil Hospital referred Sourab to the Corona ward suspecting that he might be suffering from Covid-19. The moment the policeman accompanying him removed Navjot’s handcuffs for a medical examination, he pushed the cop and fled the scene,” said the ASI.

A fresh case under 224 of the IPC has been registered against Navjot.
