Provisional admissions to classes IX and XI have started at the schools of eminence (SOE) in the city even as two institutes — Kidwai Nagar and Millerganj — are yet to be formally inaugurated. The development has posed questions over missed deadlines and administrative delays.

The school in Kidwai Nagar, announced as a flagship project, has overshot several deadlines. In November last year, MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi said the campus would be completed and inaugurated within three months. However, it is still awaiting formal inauguration.

Just a few days ago, the MLA, along with Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, inspected the campus and reviewed the final stages of preparations. Smart classrooms, science and computer laboratories, library facilities and the playground were examined, and directions were issued to expedite completion.

According to Education Department officials aware of the matter, the project is “largely complete”, but is awaiting formal inauguration by senior leadership of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Vishawkirat Singh Kahlon, district in-charge, SOE, said, “The campus here is ready and admissions are going on in the school near Division Number 3. It will open within a week as it is just awaiting formal inauguration.”

Calling the delay “largely procedural”, MLA Pappi said, “The campus is ready. It is just waiting for inauguration. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is going to inaugurate the school soon.”

Earlier, officials had cited a need for revised estimates during construction as a reason for the delay.

Officials maintained that the campus, developed to cater to students till Class XII, is equipped with modern infrastructure aimed at providing quality education.

Officials said the work on the Millerganj campus is also complete.
