An affair with his classmate cost a Class XII student his life.

The boy was attacked near Doraha on Friday by the brother of the girl along with others. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Ludhiana on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Avtar Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Dhandari Kalan, while the accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jassa, son of Baljinder Singh of Dhandari Kalan; Inderpal Singh and Gurpal Singh.

SSP Khanna Dhruv Dahiya at a press conference said the youth was attacked near Malhipur village by some unidentified persons and was admitted to a private hospital in Doraha by some villagers. Later, the youth was referred to Ludhiana, where he succumbed to his injuries.

After this, the police registered a case and formed a special team to crack this case. During investigation, it came to light that deceased Avtar Singh had an affair with his classmate, who was the sister of the main accused Jaspreet Singh. On Friday, after attending the Dasehra celebrations in Doraha, Avtar was on his way back home with his siblings, when he received a call from Jaspreet, who asked him to meet him alone to attend a singing show, which was going to be held in Doraha where famous singers were to perform. Avtar agreed and when he reached the meeting spot, Jaspreet along with Inderpal Singh (relative) and Gurpal Singh (friend), all in their mid 20s, attacked him with razor sharp objects. They then left him to die near the railway lines at Malipur village. The villagers who found Avtar, admitted him to Sidhu Hospital, Doraha, but due to his deep wounds, the doctors referred him to DMCH, Ludhiana, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The SSP said a police team led by SP(I) Jasvir Singh solved the murder case within 24 hours and booked the accused under Section 302/34 of the IPC at Doraha police station. The SSP said the police got a tip-off from social media to identify the reason behind this incident and to arrest the accused. The accused would be presented in court for further questioning, the SSP said.
