A day after incessant rain drenched Ludhiana, the city woke up to a bright sunny morning that brought both relief and cheer. According to the Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), the maximum temperature was recorded at 13.8°C while the minimum dipped to a chilly 2.4°C. The forecast for the next 24 hours predicts dry and cold weather across Ludhiana and adjoining areas.

For many residents, the rain was a mixed blessing. “Rain is welcomed, but it throws life out of gear. Things become difficult to manage,” said Satbir, a city resident. In Dhokka Mohalla, Hardeep Singh expressed fear over waterlogging, “Rain brings fear as water enters our houses. Yesterday also, we struggled. We now fear rain.”

Senior citizens too voiced concerns about the biting cold. “It becomes difficult for us in such weather. I love the sun and sunshine. Today was a beautiful day,” said one elderly resident, enjoying the brief respite.

Yet, not everyone was complaining. Aisha, a young resident, embraced the chill with enthusiasm. “I love winter and rain just added a perfect chill. I enjoy dressing up in coats, blazers and my new obsession, the pheran. I love winter,” she said with a smile.

Farmer, Paramjeet Singh from Doraha said that yesterday’s rain provided much needed moisture to the soil and crops. “I was worried if the rain continued along with the wind, it could have damaged the crop and result in logging.”

The contrasting voices reflect Ludhiana’s diverse relationship with winter. For traders and families in low lying areas, rain often means disruption and damage. For others, especially the youth, it adds charm to the season.

Despite the city’s transitions from rain to sunshine, the cold wave continues to grip people. With temperatures dipping sharply, residents are bracing for more frosty mornings. The PAU forecast suggests that while the skies may remain clear, the chill will persist.
