Dr Dinesh Kumar, a PhD Scholar of Department of Livestock Products Technology from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) bagged prestigious Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship 2018 funded by the UK Government, through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.
His major Advisor Dr Nitin Mehta said the student would carry out part of his PhD research work with Professor Graham Bonwick, New Castle University, UK. The work pertains to development of nanoencapsulated bioactive agents and its incorporation in biodegrabale films for extension of storage stability of meat products.
Dr Manish Kumar Chatli, Head of Department, explained that the research work would help to resolve various issues related with storage stability of meat and food safety. He said it was the extension of the work on biodegradable films and encapsulation technology already being carried out in the department. The department has been conducting world class work in the various areas of meat and egg science, including byproducts processing, pet food development, low-cost processing and preservation technologies, health oriented value added meat and egg products and their quality evaluation.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies, stressed that this scholarship would not only broaden the vision of the participant but would also pave a new way for inter-institutional collaboration at a global-level. He said, “The research work carried out by post-graduate students at the GADVASU is planned and designed meticulously in a manner that it parallels to prestigious universities around the globe.”
