Agricultural experts promote crop diversification during training camp
To encourage farmers to diversify their crops and move away from the traditional wheat-paddy cycle a camp was organised by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
At the monthly training camp of the PAU Kisan Club, experts Dr Devinder Pal Singh from Plant Breeding and Genetics and Dr Satish Kumar from Processing and Food Engineering, highlighted the importance of fodder cultivation, silage making and the proper post-harvest handling of garlic and onions.
Subject-matter specialists Dr HS Sidhu, an expert in farm machinery and Dr Amit Kaul, who specialises in agronomy, provided insights on the use of laser land levellers and the significance of green manuring, respectively.
Pulses expert Dr Harpreet Kaur spoke about the cultivation of summer moong and mash, while Dr Kuldeep Singh, Associate Director of Public Relations, offered career counselling to the attendees.
The camp, led by Dr TS Riar, Additional Director of Communication, was attended by 125 farmer members who gained valuable knowledge on improving agricultural practices and crop diversification.
