As the Jandali railway underbridge is nearing completion, residents of the town and localities situated across the Ludhiana Dhuri railway line are expecting an end to the regular problem of traffic congestion here.

Once opened to traffic the underbridge would ease burden on the Jagera railway crossing, the lone point of trans-railway line vehicular traffic in the town.

Residents have been suffering from traffic jams as all three roads connecting localities situated on eastern and western sides of the Ludhiana Dhuri railway line remained closed most of the time during the construction of the underbridge. The traffic on Pohir Road and Jandali Road was interrupted due to the ongoing construction of railway overbridge and underbridge.

The administration had to deploy special teams of cops to manage traffic at various sensitive points in the town and on the Dhulkot road Khera bypass, which was developed to accommodate traffic till construction work on bridges was not completed.

Residents alleged that the administration had failed to protect the interests of residents of the town and surrounding area while allowing simultaneous undertaking of construction work on Pohir Road and Jandali Road, the passages meant for travelling across the Ludhiana Dhuri railway line.

While Pohir Road level crossing is almost closed for four wheelers due to construction of Railway Over Bridge, Jandali Road is still totally closed due to construction of Under Bridge. Though the administration has also issued no objection certificate for closure of Jagera Road Level Crossing for construction of another under bridge, work on this project has not yet started.

Kulwant Singh, in-charge, subdivision-level traffic wing, said the traffic on Jandali Road was expected to resume soon as work on the construction of the Jandali underbridge would be completed soon.”We have taken up the issue with authorities supervising the construction of the Jandali Road underbridge. I have been assured that work will be completed within a couple of weeks,” said Kulwant Singh. Singh said residents commuting between local town and localities situated on Malerkotla side would prefer this bridge instead of congested Jagera road route.
