Solid waste management, strengthening of sewage disposal and sanitation remained a challenge for civic bodies in Ahmedgarh and Amargarh subdivisions falling under the Amargarh Assembly segment.
This observation was made during a public works review meeting held under the supervision of Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh Boparai at the District Administrative Office.
Deputy Commissioner Viraj S Tidke chaired the meeting held under the banner of District Development and Coordination Monitoring Committee (DISHA).
Expressing concern over non-completion of certain capital projects, MP Dr Amar Singh Boparai said he had flagged the issue with senior-most administrative officers of the state government to have the work on projects like STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) and laying of pipelines at Ahmedgarh and Amargarh expedited.
“When I took up the case of the Ahmedgarh STP project, the foundation stone of which was laid on December 4, 2024, I was updated that more funds to the tune of Rs 5 crore were required to have the plant operationalised,” Boparai said, maintaining that authorities in various departments were asked to prepare project reports for facilities which can be funded under the MPLADS.
“I have offered to send grants under MPLADS for any state project, provided human resources are available to maintain the facility,” Boparai said.
Boparai added that senior functionaries in various government departments including Water Supply and Sewerage Board had been advised to ensure that residents can lead a dignified life under clean and hygienic environment besides receiving adequate supply of safe drinking water. Motorable roads, streetlight and check on stray animals were among the issues discussed in the meeting.
DC Viraj S Tidkey said Ahmedgarh and Amargarh SDMs had been advised to closely monitor progress of all development projects besides ongoing maintenance works under their respective jurisdiction.
“Though we have been trying to ensure optimum utilisation of public funds for the execution of development works under various welfare schemes, we have advised the officials concerned to ensure that quality and quantity are not compromised,” said Tidke.
The DC advised the government personnel to get the projects completed by monitoring execution through periodic inspections.
