Ambala man held for extortion bid in Khanna
Accused allegedly harboured assailants who fired at the residence of garment trader Ashu Vijan in Khanna
The Khanna police have arrested a man from Haryana in connection with a Rs 5 crore extortion bid and subsequent firing at the residence of garment trader Ashu Vijan in Khanna, said officials.
The accused has been identified as Suraj Singh Rajpurohit alias Mohit, a resident of Punjabi Bagh in Ambala Cantonment, Haryana. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody for two days.
According to the police, Suraj Singh is accused of harbouring the main shooters. Investigators will question him about the network and other individuals involved in the crime.
Earlier, the Khanna police had arrested the alleged mastermind Amit Kumar alias Laddi (40), a distant relative of the complainant and a resident of Gulmohar Nagar in Khanna. Other accused include Ishwar Singh Randhawa (29) of Randhawa Street, Khanna; Vivek Watts alias Vivo (31) of Dhakoli in SAS Nagar; Harpreet Singh alias Pitta (29) of Umarpura in Raikot; and Parmveer Singh alias Pamma (29) of Bhamipur village in Ludhiana (Rural).
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna Dr Darpan Ahluwalia said investigations revealed that Suraj Singh fled to Thailand after the incident when police began arresting his associates. He returned to India in February 2026 and was arrested by the Khanna police on March 2.
The police are now questioning him about the larger gangster network and his role in the crime. Investigations have also revealed that he allegedly purchased clothes for three associates in Ludhiana and delivered them to a jail. Police are probing who orchestrated the operation, the SSP added.
Extortion threat in Goldy Brar’s name
Complainant Ashu Vijan had received a message from an unknown WhatsApp number demanding Rs 5 crore in extortion and threatening to kill him and his family.
The sender claimed to be wanted gangster Goldy Brar and warned that if the money was not paid, his men would be sent to eliminate the complainant and his family members.
