Some unidentified robbers armed with sharp weapons looted cash, gold jewellery worth more than Rs20 lakh and some other articles from the house of a Jagraon-based businessman after taking the family members hostage on Saturday night.

The robbers had covered their faces and were carrying sharp weapons when they entered the house around 8:15 pm and spent around 45 minutes in the house before fleeing with the booty.

According to sources, five persons were involved in the robbery. “There were total eight family members including four children and two women in the house, when the incident took place. After entering the house, the accused locked the house from inside and tied the children and women. They threatened house owner Nachatar Singh and his son Navjot Singh that they would kill the children if they do not reveal the location of cash and jewellery. The robbers ransacked the house and tied Nachatar and Navjot before fleeing,” sources said.
