Family, local residents and members of various organisations bid a teary adieu to the jawan of 66 Surveillance And Target Acquisition (SATA) Battery, Buta Singh, who died in Sikkim yesterday.
A team of Army men, led by Naib Subedar Sukhwinder Singh, placed wreaths on the jawan’s body that was covered with the Tricolor at the crematorium in Buraj Hari Singh village, near here, today.
The administration, represented by SDM Himanshu Gupta and DSP Gurmit Singh Tejey, accorded the state honor to the Jawan, who laid his life while guarding North Sikkim borders.
Buta Singh (35) is survived by his wife Harpreet Kaur, nine-year-old daughter and parents.
Family sources said Buta Singh was recently shifted to North Sikkim from Gujarat as part of a special force. He, along with one of his seniors, was buried under snow.
