The city police claimed to have solved the case in which three suspects had allegedly attempted to murder a resident of the Gita Bhawan area near Gandhi Chowk on Monday evening.

The victim, Gaurav Garg, an insurance agent, had received a bullet injury on his left hand while protecting his head from shots fired by one of the assailants.

The police have also arrested all three accused, besides recovering a pistol, two magazines and 17 live cartridges from their possession. The vehicle used in the crime has also been recovered.

Those arrested include the main suspect Avtar Singh, aresident of Kulahar village in Payal, his brother Kulwinder Singh and another accomplice Arun Ram of Bihar.

Ahmedgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Palwinder Cheema said the accused had been booked under Section 307 of the IPC and under the Arms Act for allegedly attempting to murder Gaurav Garg after calling him outside his residence around 8.15 pm on Monday.

It was on the basis of information provided by the victim and intensive analysis of footage extracted from CCTV cameras installed in the area that the investigating team identified the accused and the vehicle used in the crime.

The accused were arrested by separate teams from different places when they were trying to leave the area.

Investigation revealed that Gaurav Goyal and one of his associates, Jagdeep Bansal Gogi, had a dispute with the main accused Avtar Singh over realisation of cheques issued by the latter.

Feeling unable to repay the huge amount, Avtar Singh allegedly conspired with Kulwinder Singh and Arun Ram to scare Gaurav and Gogi with muscle power.

Appreciating members of the investigating team led by Sadar SHO Amandeep Kaur for coordinated action taken in the case, DSP Palwinder Singh Cheema acknowledged that installation of CCTC cameras in the area had facilitated identification of the accused and the vehicle used in crime.

“Though it was a sort of blind crime, genuineness of information provided by the victim and scientific analysis of CCTV footages by the police enabled us to nab the accused,” said the DSP.
