Auto gang busted, 8 arrested

LUDHIANA: The Zone 1 police claimed to have busted a gang of auto-rickshaw operators who had looted many passengers in the past several months.

The Zone 1 police claimed to have busted a gang of auto-rickshaw operators who had looted many passengers in the past several months. The police arrested eight of its members and recovered stolen valuables from them.

Additional DCP 1 Gurpreet Singh Sikand said the members of the gang were arrested during a special ‘nakabandi’ in the Zone 1 by separate police stations in their respective jurisdiction.

The ADCP said at a naka set up at the back of Civil Hospital, an Ertiga car was singalled to stop. Three occupants, Anil Kumar of Vishal Colony, Raj Parshad of Adarsh Nagar and Radhey Mahato of Islam Ganj were found in possession of eight mobile phones.

The ADCP said at another naka installed at Cheema Chowk, an auto-rickshaw was stopped following a tip-off. Two occupants, namely Gyan Chand of Satguru Nagar and Kuldeep Singh of Deep Nagar, were arrested with eight stolen mobile phones.

At yet another naka at Suffian Bagh set up by the Janakpuri police post, Babbu Singh, Sandeep Kumar of Islam Ganj and Sunny Kumar of Rajgarh village travelling in an auto-rickshaw were nabbed. During their checking, the police recovered seven mobile phones which they had looted from auto-rickshaw passengers.

During questioning, Anil revealed that he had been facing several cases of theft registered at various police stations in the city. The other accused also revealed that they had a notorious past and they had been running the robbers’ gang for the past over one year.
