Awareness camp on paddy recommended by PAU

LUDHIANA: An awareness camp on “Scientific Cultivation of Paddy Crop and Popularisation of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) recommended varieties of paddy” was organised by the Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, under the guidance of Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, head of the department.

An awareness camp on “Scientific Cultivation of Paddy Crop and Popularisation of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) recommended varieties of paddy” was organised by the Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, under the guidance of Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, head of the department.

Dr Preetinder Singh Sarao, an expert from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, suggested sowing of short-duration varieties of paddy instead of long-duration varieties like Pusa 44 to increase net profit.

He also advocated the use of need-based application of insecticides and advised the farmers to avoid the use of granular insecticides on paddy and the mixing of synthetic pythroids in recommended spray formulations.

Dr Lavleesh Garg, assistant professor of extension education, spoke about skill-oriented training courses for youth for career development.

Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Extension Education, expressed concern over the depleting water table in Punjab.

Dr Dharminder Singh, Assistant Extension Specialist, called upon the farmers to develop a close liaison with farm experts for timely and reliable information.

He also motivated the farmers for growing recommended varieties of paddy including PR 121, PR 124, PR 126 and PR 127 for better management of paddy straw. He exhorted them to read farm literature and use the PAU Kisan app for gaining more knowlege about lastest developments.
