Ludhiana, July 18
A day after the complainant in the ‘multi-crore City Centre scam’ alleged that he is being “threatened and pressurised” to facilitate the cancellation of the case, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has urged the Supreme Court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court to shift the case out of Punjab to ensure a fair trial.
On Wednesday, Bains announced support to the complainant, former Vigilance Bureau SSP Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu. The complainant on Tuesday had also filed a petition against the closure report of the Vigilance Bureau (VB).
Bains said their party supported Sandhu and if he was implicated in any false case, they would oppose it. He said: “I will write to the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court to shift the City Centre case out of Punjab for a fair trial. Earlier, I had filed an application to become party in the case but it was dismissed.
“The Captain and Badal families had made a secret agreement to support each other. They cheated people of Punjab. We will not let people of the state pay a price for corruption done by Captain and others. The VB had earlier filed a detailed challan before the court but the same Vigilance, on the instructions of the Badals, filed a closure report in the case. We will fight the case till its logical conclusion, so the accused get punishment.
“We will support all honest officials who expose corruption.”
