Bains lodging false FIRs against rape victim, kin: SAD leaders

Ludhiana, September 13

Senior SAD-B leader Harish Rai Dhanda and Gurdeep Singh Gosha today charged the Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) preseident and Atam Nagar legislator Simarjit Singh Bains with making attempts to intimidate rape victim and her family members by lodging false criminal complaints against them.

The SAD leaders staged a dharna in protest against the failure of the police to arrest Bains even after an FIR for rape had been registered against him on the intervention of the court.

Later, addressing a press meet, Dhanda and Gosha said after failing to put pressure on the complainant to withdraw the rape case against him by offering money, Bains was now out to browbeat the complainant and her family members by implicating them in false criminal cases for heinous crimes such as attempt to murder, snatching and human trafficking.

“Bains is trying to make mockery of the law by making false and frivolous charges against the rape victim and her family members. But ultimately the LIP chief would have to go to jail for his crime against a widow and hapless woman,” said Dhanda.

Former YAD president Gosha made a scathing attack on the city police and ruling Congress leaders for their overt and covert support to the rape accused (Bains). It was due to the support of ruling party leaders that the police had still not arrested the LIP leader and he was permitted to mock the law.

“Our party is standing rock-solid behind the rape victim and we will take the matter to its logical conclusion,” Gosha said.
