Baseball c'ship: Sandeep, Ramit to lead Punjab

LUDHIANA: Sandeep Kaur and Ramit Batra, both from Ludhiana, have been selected to lead the Punjab girls’ and boys’ teams in the 28th edition of the Sub-Junior National Baseball Championship to be held from July 13 to 17 at Guwahati in Assam.

Sandeep Kaur and Ramit Batra, both from Ludhiana, have been selected to lead the Punjab girls’ and boys’ teams in the 28th edition of the Sub-Junior National Baseball Championship to be held from July 13 to 17 at Guwahati in Assam.

Players and officials of two teams were given a warm send off at the local railway station on Thursday. Office-bearers of the Ludhiana District Baseball Association, including its honorary general secretary Harbir Singh Gill, were present there to see off the contingents.

The teams were finalised during the trials conducted on July 2. The selected players attended the preparatory camp between July 6 and 11 at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village in Ludhiana district, prior to their departure to participate in the national championship.

Girls’ team include Sandeep Kaur (captain), Amanjot Kaur, Komaljeet Kaur, Anmolpreet Kaur, Jiya Verma, Taranpreet Kaur, Gaganjot Kaur and Sarabjeet Kaur from Ludhiana; Renu from Sangrur; Anu and Neha from Jalandhar; Simranjeet Kaur and Nimrta from Amritsar; Bhoomi and Priyanshita from Patiala; Kavita from Moga; Priyanka and Gurleen from Ferozepur. Jatinder Kumar Thakur and Anu have been appointed coach and manager, respectively, of the squad.

Boys’ team include Ramit Batra (captain), Amninder, Vanshul, Aditya, Narayan, Dipender, Divij and Ashvinder from Ludhiana; Gagandeep and Samarjeet from Amritsar; Parminder and Akashdeep from Ferozepur; Sajanpreet and Pardeep from Moga; Jashanpreet, Harmanjot and Sagan from Sangrur; Abhishek from Mohali. Jagdeep Singh will accompany the team as manager while Pardeep Singh will be the coach.
