Bhavnik, Parmeet shine in karate championship

Ludhiana, December 18

Bhavnik Singh Grewal and Parmeet Singh Grewal, both students of Peace Public School, Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana, won medals in an international karate championship held recently.

The duo along with two other players from the district participated in the 5th Open International Karate Championship “KL Mayur Cup” held at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Around 800 karatekas, including boys and girls from across the world competed in different age groups.

Other two players from Ludhiana were Arjun Kumar and Gurkirpal Singh from Jatindera Green Field School, Gurusar Sadhar. The quartet finished among medal winners in the below 30-kg weight group in kata and kumite events.

Bhavnik clinched a silver medal in kata event (8-9 years); Parmeet Singh bagged a bronze medal in the same event (9-10 years) whereas Gurkirpal Singh won a gold medal in kata event (12-13 years) and Arjun Kumar won a silver medal in kumite event (8-9). Ashok Chauhan, senior coach and general secretary, Ludhiana District Karate-Do Association, who accompanied the boys to Malaysia said the four boys have been selected to attend an advanced training programme scheduled to be held in Japan, early next year.
