A friend of the accused was also involved in the crime.
The victim had lodged a police complaint following the fraud, which led to the registration of the case. Those booked have been identified as Harsh Jain, a resident of Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, and Gagan Chawla, a resident of New Tagore Nagar, Haibowal.
Complainant Navendu Jain of Santosh Nagar, Haibowal, while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday stated that he and Harsh were partners in Bajrang Hardware and Plywood Firm located at Haibowal Kalan. A few months back, due to some differences, they both had decided to part ways.
“As stocks of sanitary goods worth Rs 25 lakh was lying in the showroom and as per the agreement, I had decided to keep the goods with me and promised to pay Rs 13.30 lakh for the same. I paid Rs 11 lakh in advance and after clearing the remaining Rs 2.30 lakh payment, I had to take possession of the goods which were till that time being kept at the place of Gagan. Later, when I went to pay Rs 2.30 lakh and asked for possession of the goods, the accused refused to take money and also refused to give the goods. Even the copy of agreement was torn apart by the accused. I was cheated of Rs 11 lakh plus the goods,” alleged the complainant.
Now, whenever he asked the accused to return the goods, the accused would intimidate him. After a long probe, Ludhiana police had registered the case against the two accused on the charge of fraud, criminal intimidation and causing disappearance of evidence of offence, the complainant said.
