Ludhiana, March 17
Leaders of the Ludhiana BJP and activists of Shiv Sena Hindustan today staged a protest outside the Division Number 3 police station. The activists of both parties raised slogans against the police for failing to arrest the accused in a rape case even one month after the incident.
While speaking during the occasion, Chander Kan Chaddha, president of Vyopar Cell of Shiv Sena Hindustan, said a minor girl was raped in the Madhopuri area of Ludhiana around one month ago. Though the police had registered a case against the accused, they have failed to arrest him so far. “The Police Department has not been arresting the accused because he is close to some leaders of the ruling Congress while the victim girl belongs to a poor family. We stand with the victim’s family and will continue our struggle until justice is provided to the victim,” said Chaddha.
The protest continued for around two hours. The protest was called off after ACP (Central) Varyam Singh arrived there and spoke with the protesters. The ACP assured the protesters that the accused had absconded and the police had been making every possible effort to arrest him.
The ACP also denied the police had been working under any kind of political pressure in this case and assured the protesters that the accused would be behind bars soon. It was only after the assurance by the police officials that the protesters called off the dharna. However, they warned the Police Department that they would intensify their struggle if the police failed to arrest the accused in near future.
Hindu Samaj Party president Mukesh Khurana, BJP leader Gurdev Sharma Debi and a few BJP councillors took part in the protest.
