Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 13

People from all walks of life paid homage to Haider, a local youth who drowned in Winnipeg, Canada, 18 days ago. His body was brought here on Wednesday morning after the intervention of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Though religious rites following Haider’s death had been performed at a funeral house in Winnipeg in the presence of his friends and relatives, the body was brought here so that his relatives and parents, Dr Sitar and Ashima, could view his face. The body was to be buried at the graveyard on Dehliz Road, Mandi Ahmedgarh.

Prominent people, including BJP president Parmod Gupta, SAD working committee member Jagwant Singh, Municipal Council chief Suraaj Mohammad, councillor Issa Mohammad, former MC president Ravinder Puri, Teji Kamalpur, PA to legislator Surjit Singh Dhiman and social activist Naresh Sharma, paid homage to the deceased youth who had gone to Canada for higher studies and in search of greener pastures.
