Ludhiana, September 14
A boxing academy would soon be set up at Jarkhar village on Ludhiana-Malerkotla Road, about 15 km from here. It was announced by Jagdeep Singh Ghuman from Mumbai who, along with members of the 5ab Foundation, visited the village on Tuesday.
“An academy, with the help of the foundation, is already functioning at Chakar village in the district. Two more academies, one at Jarkhar and another at Talwara in Kapurthala district, will be set up in the near future wherein aspirants (boys and girls) will be imparted coaching/training free of cost by a team of experts,” he said.
Ghuman and principal Balwant Singh Chakar, director of the Chakar Academy, said the aim of the foundation was to provide the best available infrastructure to Punjab youth to prepare them for the next Olympics.
Coaches, boxing rings, sports kits and other required items would be made available for the players at 5ab Boxing Academy, Jarkhar. Directors for the upcoming academies would be appointed who would oversee the functioning of these centres, Ghuman said.
He said the foundation would also sponsor Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, Jarkhar, which had produced players of repute in the past one decade.
Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, director, Jarkhar Hockey Academy, welcomed guests and honoured them. He said interested boys and girls could contact organisers of the Jarkhar Academy at the main stadium of the village. — OC
