Boy dies after being run over by vehicle

A 12-year-old boy of Koom Kalan village died after being run over by a vehicle while he was walking home from the market. Sumit Kumar breathed his last at the PGI, Chandigarh, yesterday. A case has been registered under Section 304-A against the unidentified driver at the Koom Kalan police station.

Phool Kumar, father of the deceased, said Sumit was walking home when a speeding vehicle ran him over. He was taken to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, from where he was referred to Samrala. The doctors at Samrala again referred him to the PGI, Chandigarh where he succumbed to injuries yesterday.

Investigating officer Des Raj said the vehicle driver could not be identified. “We shall soon come to know about his whereabouts as we have got some crucial clues in the case,” he added.
