Ludhiana: The students of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana, were brimming with love and emotions as they celebrated Grandparents’ Day on November 23. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 400 grandparents of Nursery students. The celebration commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony and was followed by a welcome address by Dr Paramjit Kaur, Director of Arya Samaj Group of Schools. The student choir captivated the audience with their melodious performance. Touching video messages from children brought smiles and tears of joy to the eyes of the grandparents. The event’s highlights included grandparents participating in activities such as the ‘Promenade,’ ‘Creative Arts,’ and ‘Cook without Fire’ competitions. The grandparents also walked down the ramp, carrying placards bearing beautiful messages. Dr Paramjit expressed her gratitude to the grandparents for their invaluable presence during the event.

Alumni meet

Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC), Ludhiana, recently celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its 1974 batch on campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 60 alumni, accompanied by their families, who travelled from across India and other countries like Canada, Australia, and the USA. The alumni meet started with an ardas at the college gurdwara sahib. On the special occasion, a souvenir dedicated to the 1974 batch was released, showcasing the profiles and achievements of the batch. The management and principal honoured all ‘Genconians’ with mementos. Trustees of Nankana Sahib Education Trust Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Gursharan Singh Grewal and Director Inderpal Singh expressed their heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the 1974 batch for their generous contribution of Rs 20 lakh towards establishing a centre for experiential learning. This celebration not only marked 50 years of the 1974 batch’s legacy but also reinforced the strong bond between GNDEC and its alumni.

Gurpurb celebrated

Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, celebrated Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, with great fervour, devotion, and enthusiasm. The programme started with a recital of 60 paths of ‘Japji Sahib’ by 70 students and was followed by shabad kirtan under the patronage of Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Around 210 students of the school attired in white sang the holy hymns describing Guru Nanak’s glory. They also spoke on the significance of Gurpurab and the teachings of the Guru through 51 poems, 11 speeches, 15 sakhis, lectures, and discussion. The sangat made a beeline to pay obeisance to the great Guru.

Badminton Championship

A badminton championship was hosted at Millennium World School. Nearly 140 students from schools within and near the district participated, competing across the U-11, 13, and 15 categories for both girls and boys. In the U-11 girls’ category, Gurseerat claimed the gold medal, Sristi secured silver, and Bhaavni Kaur earned bronze. In the U-11 boys’ category, Ryan Singla took the gold medal, Ronit Saluja won silver, and Sanay Bhaskar walked away with the bronze. In the U-13 girls’ category, Gurnaaz Kaur emerged victorious, Kashvi achieved the silver medal, and Shivangi earned the bronze medal. In the U-13 boys’ category, Giten Pratap Singh claimed the gold medal, Ashish Verma won the silver, and Manas Goyal took home the bronze. In the U-15 girls’ category, Amelia, followed by Gurnaaz Kaur and Nidhi. In the U-15 boys’ category, Jaskirat Singh won the gold medal, Tanush Prashar secured the silver, and Dinesh earned the bronze.

Group folk dance event

The Inter BCM Group Folk Dance Competition was held at BCM School, Chandigarh Road, in its Mata Thakur Devi Auditorium. The event featured vibrant performances by participating schools, showcasing the rich traditions of the region and leaving the audience mesmerised. The competition began with the ceremonial lamp lighting by Dr Prem Kumar, Manager, and DP Guleria, Principal. In his opening address, Guleria emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage. He highlighted how such initiatives fostered holistic development and underscored the significance of arts and culture in education.

Annual sports day

Ryan International School, Jamalpur, Ludhiana, organised its annual sports day. The day started with prayers followed by the march past, the lighting of the torch, the taking of the oath ceremony by the head girl, and the declaration of the meet open by the chief guest. It was followed by the final athletic events, which included various relay races, three-legged races, and sack races under various age categories, respectively for boys and girls. Chief guests Rajinder Pal Kaur Chinna, MLA, Punjab Legislative Assembly , ACP traffic-2 Police Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Yoga fitness master Sanjeev and renowned counsellor Dr Aman Bhatia adorned the event with their presence.

NSS camp begins

DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana, inaugurated the NSS residential camp for 52 volunteers on Monday. The indispensable camp began with a lamp lighting ceremony performed by Principal Dr Satwant Kaur Bhullar, along with the NSS unit coordinators Deepa Malhotra and Rajesh Sharma. Principal Bhullar encouraged the volunteers to participate wholeheartedly in all the thoughtful and value oriented activities to be organised during the camp. The students also showed equal enthusiasm and promised to be active learners.
