Six miscreants, armed with sharp weapons, allegedly waylaid two youths from Isher Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, and snatched their new Alto K10 car on Sunday night.
The suspects also took away the smart mobile phones and wallets of the victims — identified as Harpreet Singh and his friend Rohit Kumar.
The Dehlon police, led by SHO Sukhdev Singh, have initiated a probe into the sequence of events leading to the carjacking.
Investigation revealed that Rohit Kumar and Harpreet Singh were going from Guru Nanak Engineering College to the Bulara road for practicing driving late on Sunday night when one of the miscreants stopped them on the pretext of inquiring about a mishap in the region. The miscreant then tried to snatch the car keys away. When the victims resisted, a few other suspects overpowered them and took away their mobile phones and wallets. The suspects beat them up with with sharp weapons and rods before taking away their car.
A case has been registered under Sections 379-B, 148 and 149 of the IPC. The police have initiated a probe on the basis of CCTVs installed in the region.
