The Vigilance Bureau here yesterday nabbed a Patwari while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a woman. While the Vigilance staff were completing the paper formalities, the Patwari snatched an awl from a member of the Vigilance team and attempted to commit suicide. He, however, was overpowered by the staff before he could injured himself.
Vigilance Bureau Inspector Ranjit Singh said yesterday, Patwari Anil Narula, posted at Iyali Kalan, was caught while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a woman. Seema’s mother Bimla had taken a loan from a bank which was cleared by Seema. Now Seema wanted a clearance certificate from the Revenue Department that her property has no loan but the Patwari demanded bribe.
Ranjit said after he was taken into custody and paper formalities were being completed, the accused snatched a file from his hand. “After snatching the file, he found an awl in it. He was about to push the awl through his chest when we overpowered him and didn’t let him harm himself,” said Ranjit.
He said, apart from a bribe case, a case under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public function), IPC, had also been registered.
